YoungBiz, a global education and publishing company was established in the USA in 1994 and currently is present in the US, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, China and South Africa. Recently established in South Africa, there cannot be a better time to acquire a YoungBiz franchise.
There was never a more pressing need for the skills taught by YoungBiz as the corporate job market and rapidly rising debt levels and interest rates make it more and more important for us to take care of ourselves. What better place to start than with the youth of the country, educating them in areas that just weren’t addressed when we were kids!
The YoungBiz methods of teaching are unique. The courses are loads of fun and completely different from anything any schoolchild has experienced in a classroom situation, YoungBiz trainers become more ‘facilitators’ than teachers as the students get totally immersed in their subject.
YoungBiz focus mainly on ONE and THREE day interactive courses in Entrepreneurship – Smart Start to Business and Financial Literacy – Smart Start to Money. We also have PRIMARY courses aimed at the youngsters which are broken into modules chosen to suit the class.
The Primary Courses are aimed at children from grade 3 to grade 6
The Smart Start Courses are aimed at teenagers and young adults from grade 7 to grade 12 and beyond
Due to the uniqueness of the South African definition of ‘Youth’ being up to age 35 years old, we are currently adapting our ‘You’re the Boss’ curriculum to address the older student market.
IN A NUTSHELL
The Primary courses teach children about the value of money and what it means to have a business through interactive games and contests that make the subject matter fun and interesting.
The Smart Start to Money – One Day Course – aims to teach the students the value of money, the necessity to save, budget and be smart about credit; an introductory course into the world of financial literacy.
The Smart Start to Money – Three Day Course – Literally teaches the students how to set up and run a budget, how to avoid the credit trap and to use credit wisely if absolutely necessary and then it goes into the real world of saving and investing. Students learn about the pros and cons of savings, how to invest wisely and then build their own virtual share portfolio, finishing off with presentations as to what, why and where they would invest their money!
The Smart Start to Business – One Day Course – once again is an introductory course into the world of business and endeavours to get the students to understand that setting up and starting their own business is an option and with the right guidance is not as scary as it might seem.
The Smart Start to Business – Three Day Course – takes students to the real world of business where the outcome is not to show them how to open a business, but to get them to open a business. This three day intensive course (yes, it’s only three days!) has the students identifying a business opportunity in their own community, understanding the reasons and ways of marketing their business, understanding the differences between going it alone or in a partnership or company, putting together their business plan and presenting it to would be ‘investors’. Essentially the students leave the course, in the very real position of being able to make their very first sale! (In fact at the first course held in South Africa, two of the students teamed up and actually had their first client before the end of the three days!)
Courses can be held as one or three day ‘camps’ or can be split up to be held over a number of days to suit the student group.
